Leather products – high-quality Finnish craftsmanship
All our leather products are handcrafted from vegetable-tanned leather at the workshop of TR Leather Design in Helsinki. Every product is made using ecologically and ethically produced vegetable-tanned leather. The leather comes from Sweden, from the Tärnsjö tannery, which holds TÜV Rheinland certification.
TR Leather Design is a brand by two Helsinki-based artisans, Tiina and Riku. Their goal is to design and produce unique, high-quality, and practical leather goods without compromising on sustainability.
“For us, it is important that our products are carefully designed and made with heart, and that the materials we use are of high quality. In addition, by preserving traditional craftsmanship, we can create long-lasting and unique products.” — Tiina & Riku
Vegetable tanning is a leather processing method that uses natural materials such as bark, leaves, and roots, leaving no harmful chemicals in the leather. This traditional method is gentle on the environment and preserves the natural properties of the leather. The result is durable leather that develops a beautiful patina over time, telling its own unique story.
Saddle stitching is a traditional handcraft technique known for its strength and durability. Unlike machine stitching, saddle stitching uses two needles and a strong waxed thread. The threads cross through the leather in every stitch. If one stitch breaks, the others still hold the structure together, preventing the seam from unraveling. This makes, for example, our wallets significantly more durable than machine-stitched alternatives.
Waxed thread further enhances durability and protects the stitches from moisture and wear. Every stitch is carefully made, ensuring a long lifespan for our wallets. Saddle stitching is not only a durable solution but also adds a timeless and refined aesthetic to the product.
